Free Mississippi CDL Permit Practice Test: General Knowledge 2025

There are three classes of Commercial Driver Licenses (CDLs). A Class A CDL allows you to operate combination vehicles with a Gross Combination Weight Rating (GCWR) of 26,001 pounds or more in which the towed vehicle weighs more than 10,000 pounds. This class of CDL is typically for driving semi-trucks or tractor-trailers. A Class B CDL allows you to operate a single vehicle with a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of 26,001 pounds or more, or to tow a vehicle that does not exceed 10,000 pounds. This license is typically for driving buses and straight trucks, including box trucks and most dump trucks. A Class C CDL allows you to operate relatively smaller vehicles designed to transport hazardous materials or 16 or more occupants (including the driver). You must decide which class of CDL you want to apply for, based on the types of vehicles you expect to be driving in your career.

Before you can obtain a CDL, you must become proficient in commercial driving. To practice commercial driving (under supervision), you must obtain a Commercial Learner’s Permit (CLP). And for that, you must submit to a medical examination and pass the official General Knowledge written test. And we can help you pass that written test easily.

The official Mississippi Commercial Driver License Manual contains all the information covered by the questions on the official knowledge test. But it’s not that easy to learn from. One better study tool is our set of General Knowledge practice tests like this one. The structure and content of this free Mississippi CDL permit practice test are similar to those of the official test. It is up to date as of January, 2025. There are 50 questions on such topics as cargo management, following distance, vehicle components, and vehicle maneuvers. But unlike the official test questions, each of our practice questions includes a helpful hint and an explanation of the correct answer. With our practice tests, there’s no pressure to pass and no timer to beat. Take all the time you need to practice and learn the material.

So, where will you be driving commercially? Interstate 55 is a major north-south truck route. It runs from New Orleans, Louisiana, through Mississippi, to Chicago, Illinois. A major east-west route is Interstate 20, which runs from Reeves County, Texas to Jackson, Mississippi (where it connects with I-55), and from there to Florence, South Carolina. Two other major routes for transporting cargo are U.S. Route 49, which runs from Piggott, Arkansas south to Jackson, Mississippi; and U.S. Route 82, which runs from Alamogordo, New Mexico through Mississippi to Glynn, Georgia.
